“Our job as gay people was to come out, to be visible, to live in the truth . . . to get out of the lie. A flag really fit that mission, because that’s a way of proclaiming your visibility or saying, This is who I am!”

Gilbert Baker, Creator of the Pride Flag

Since its debut the Pride flag has become an iconic symbol of the LGBTQIA+ community. The flag’s design has evolved over time to be more inclusive. It represents gay pride, community, queer love, self-love, inclusivity, diversity, resistance, unity, acceptance, awareness, tolerance, freedom, power, hope, and so much more. I wanted to create a vignette to tell the story if the history of the pride flag and its evolution. I also thought it would be important to include the history of Stonewall as that was a turning point in LGBTQIA history.

How do you celebrate pride?
